April 15th – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The-good

For the second week in a row, I have to put my man Hardy Wallace in this spot. I can’t think of a trip that produced more great material than Hardy’s trip to Bordeaux. His “reviews” of Petrus and Lafite Rothschild are absolutely classic. Hardy is now back in his beloved “Healdsburgundy”, and it will be interesting to see if we get treated to more of Hardy’s Alvin and the Chipmunk auditions.

The-bad

Making a return to “The Bad” is HR 1161, this year’s version of the effort to restrict wine shipping that started with last year’s HR 5034. This post from the Ship Compliant blog gives some thoughts on the bill.

The-ugly

You know what the wine world doesn’t need? More Donald Trump. In an interesting move that will probably not have a substantial effect on the Virginia wine industry, The Donald has purchased Virginia’s Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard. Dr. Vino posts on the move. This seems to simply be a case of Trump finding an undervalued piece of real-estate to buy up, and Trump has stated that he doesn’t really have much interest in wine. I leave you this image of The Donald’s hair (an easy target, I know.)

Cheers!
