It has become more and more common in almost every industry to hear references to the Millenial Generation in recent years. This growing market segment is important in any business, and the wine industry is no exception. As the portion of this generation that is of drinking age continues to grow, so does their influence over the industry.

For the last five years, the Washington State Wine Commission has hosted an event targeted at the Millenial market, called 20something – the new vintage. The event is focused on younger wine enthusiasts, and includes tastings from over 75 wineries and 15 restaurants, tunes spun by KEXP’s DJ Darek Mazzone, and educational stations and demonstrations in the Geek Lounge. The event is designed to provide an approachable environment for Millenials to learn more about Washington wine and wineries. Madeline Dow, who is the Senior Marketing Manager for the Washington State Wine Commission and a Millenial as well, says, “20something lets people meet winemakers in a more fun and approachable atmosphere; it’s truly a unique and memorable experience.”

If previous results are any indication, the Washington Wine Commission is doing a great job with this event, as previous events have sold out quickly. Tickets for the event are $50 a piece, with two tickets for $90.
