After a grueling four day trip from West Texas to our new home in Washington, we are finally starting to get settled in. It definitely feels good to not be spending my days driving across the country in a moving van or loading and unloading boxes into said moving van. It's hard to say whether the hard part is over, or just beginning. Now I get to hit the job search market full-time, which will be a somewhat longer term project than the initial move was.
I may not know where I will be working in six months, but I have made one decision about what I will be doing on the blog over that time. I have decided that I want to do an educational tour of my new home state, learning more about the different areas of the state, and the wines that are being produced here. I plan to go visit as many wineries, wine industry people, and wine writers around the state as possible. I want to learn as much as I can about Washington wine, and I'm excited to share the experience with all of you.
I'm calling this new endevour the Washington: Getting to Know You Tour. I'm looking for volunteers and recommendations for interview subjects for my new project. My plan is to do video interviews with key Washington wine people and with wineries around the state, as well as write some Washington themed posts. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, contact Ben here. I'm really excitied about this opportunity to get to know the Washington wine world, and to let all of you learn with me.
Cheers!

Welcome to our state, Ben. We are delighted to have you here in wine country!

Welcome, Ben! I’m not a key WA wine person or winery, but if you need a tour guide in the Tri-Cities/Prosser area, I’m your man! Let me know what I can do to help.
Sounds like the start of an excellent new adventure and chapter. Look forward to learning more about Washington state from your perspective. All the best! Frank
Ben,
You should drop me a line. My uncle’s been in Kennewick for over 30 years, and he’s seen the industry grow by leaps and bounds there. I’m sure he could put you in touch with some folks that he’s known a long time who could maybe help with a job. Plus, my aunt already knows you, as she drove over to WW to attend our breakout session.
I’d love to see as much ink as possible on WA wines that folks can get in Georgia (you could expand that to more states, obviously). Washington’s still largely unknown to many consumers, and I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of offerings in many spots. Not necessarily write-ups of Ch. Ste. Michelle, but some great finds that can be scrounged on the homefront.
Also, make sure you visit Josh’s tasting room and say that the Suburban Wino sent you so you can get a free bottle of wine. The evidence is cemented in my comment history
Thanks to all for the kind welcome words. I’m really excited to be here in Washington wine country! Scott, I will definitely be taking you up on your offer for a tour guide. Looking forward to seeing the area.
Joe, I would love to talk with your uncle. Always great to meet new people who are familiar with the area. I’ll see what I can do about posting on some more widely available WA wines. I have already started angling for free wine from Josh, and I might even come begging him for a job soon if I don’t find employment in the Tri-Cities.
Welcome to Washington! Glad to have a fellow Texas transplant here. Hope to see you on the Washington wine trails. Best of luck with the job search. Cheers!
Thanks Kori, I am excited to be here. I look forward to meeting up with you on the wine trails soon as well. Cheers!
Hey Ben, I just sent you an email with the details. Looking through those who are offering to help you out, you’ve got some horsepower here. I’m not a bad connection either. I specialize in small production wineries (4000 cases or less). You are going to love it here! Texas is great, but it doesn’t have wine like thses. Looking forward to your journey! It’s a good one!
