One day fades into another, as I claw my way across my living room. The smell of dust bunnies and cardboard hangs heavy in the air. My weapon of choice these days is a tape gun, although I occasionally wield a utility knife as well. The chilling realization hits me that we own entirely too many books, but unfortunately the realization strikes too late, and I've managed to fill up 9 boxes with various types of reading material. I am such a nerd.
A quick perusal of my wine collection, and the accompanying thoughts of the lack of boxes for said wine, strikes terror in my heart. Why, oh why, did I not save more of the packaging for those wine samples. What a fool I've been.
Okay, enough with the melodrama. This whole post is really just my way of letting you all know that I am still alive and do not have any plans to discontinue my blog. I have been feeling a bit like a character in an old Western (an archetype that you all know I have a certain affinity for), wandering around the desert, looking to escape before he runs out of water. Right now we are in the process of packing up our apartment, which we must vacate by the end of the month. It is looking like we are going to have to just strike out soon, with or without jobs, and let the chips fall where they may. Right now I am still in the process of my job search, which wasn't nearly as daunting when I was still employed. Still, we are extremely excited to find out what the future holds. Despite the stresses associated with a situation like this, there is definitely something exhilarating about the future being a blank canvas. Whether we end up in California, Washington, or somewhere else, by this time next year life will be something entirely new.
Don't get me wrong, I would prefer sooner rather than later when it comes to some resolution on the career end of things. Money may not be everything, but in the words of George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life, "It comes in pretty handy down here, Bub." My hope is still that I can find something in the wine industry (so if you are hiring…), but I have started to spread the net a bit, both in location and in the type of work.
So, sorry for the prolonged absence from the blog. I knew it had been a while since I last posted, but my wife's look of horror when I told her how long it had been definitely shamed me into trying to do a better job of getting some content out. I still doubt that I will be able to meet the 5 times a week pace that I was keeping up while I get moved, but I am going to try to get some new stuff out. I am really excited about a couple of pieces that I'm working on, including a review of one of my wife and my current favorite accessories. I hope that you haven't given up on me, and I look forward to writing more soon.
Cheers!

Darn, I thought that you were wandering the plains looking for wine. Glad to hear you are getting back to things and glad to hear that I am not the only person who gets into a rut… Hang in there!
Good to see you and your dusty old self again. Keep us posted and I guess you can officially open up your search to Oregon without fear of corporal punishment. Best of luck and happy landings!!
Wow, Ben, exciting and stressful!
Been there and nearly did that this month, too! For now, I’m taking it month by month until I have more info and downsizing in hopes of that wine country move.
Good luck and congratulations on taking the leap. Hope to see you there, wherever there may be!
I’ll employ some coercion for your benefit while I’m out here, buddy.
Anytime anywhere! If there’s something I can do to help I will. Sending good vibes your way!
