I've been lucky enough to have been able to participate in some really great wine events on Twitter recently, including the recent Tweet and Taste Michigan event that was hosted by Shannon Casey from Michigan by the Bottle. The really great thing about that event was that the folks from the winery were very involved in the whole process, and I felt like I really had the opportunity to get to know the winery involved, and also gain some insight into Michigan wine. Recently I have been inspired to put together some similar events to show off Texas wine to people around the state, and around the U.S.
One of the first wineries that I thought about when I started to plan for this event was Mandola Estate Winery. I was originally introduced to their wines by my good friend Clint Bingham, whose family grows some of the grapes for Mandola's wines. I started talking with Bill Elsey, who serves as the Manager of Wine Sales at Mandola Estate, and they were excited to participate in a Twitter Tasting event showcasing their wines. And thus, the first installment of Taste Texas was born.
On Thursday, May 13th at 7:00 pm Central Time, I will be hosting an event on Twitter with Mandola Estate Winery. We will be tasting four different Mandola wines, and tweeting up a storm about Texas wine, and especially about Mandola wines. This will be a great opportunity for you to taste some great Texas wine, and to learn more about one of the many great wineries located in the Hill Country of Texas. All you have to do is buy some, or all, of the four wines that we will be tasting, drink up, and tweet about your experience using the #tastetexas hashtag.
For details on the event, and to register to participate, visit the Taste Texas Eventbrite site. There will be some upcoming announcements for the event, including some guest bloggers, and details for my West Texas readers about a tweetup for the event that I will be hosting.

As they say in Texas, Yeeee – Haw! (or maybe that’s not Texas) – oh well, this is going to be huge. Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Larry Hagman, Ten Gallon Hats, and pure Texas crude!
Can’t wait
Josh
Geez! You and the stereotypes!
Now excuse me while I finish my meal of peaches and peanuts, spill tobacco juice on my rebel flag t-shirt, and go make moonshine.
Am trying to wrangle (Texas reference, right?) these wines and participate with a plate of Lone Star BBQ delights!
Wrangle seems sufficiently Texan.
And I think Josh is not too far off with his stereotypes. I’d have to say that the majority of Texas stereotypes are pretty close to truth, although clearly not applicable across the board.
Hope to have both of you on board for the event!
Very cool. We enjoyed tasting the Mandola’s with you for United Slurps of America. And Bill Elsey was super nice and helpful. Go Texas!
Wish I could do this….being in France makes it kinda difficult though. Can these wines be mailed to France =) I’ll be back in Texas in July though to do my master in wine biz thesis on the San Antonio Wine Culture…, so hopefully I can join in on the Texas Twitter tastings once I get back!
