Last night I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in Tweet and Taste Michigan, hosted by Shannon Casey from Michigan by the Bottle. I had a couple of friends over to get their first taste of Michigan wine with me, and had a great time talking with all the other wine lovers who were involved in the event. This event had great participation, with 54 different people tweeting over 1000 times about the wines from Shady Lane Cellars. I will be posting a full review on these wines tomorrow, but I wanted to give a quick overview today.
Along with the Michigan wine enthusiasts, there were bloggers and wine lovers from around the country, including my crew in Texas, Josh Wade of Drink Nectar fame in Washington, and Lenn Thompson from New York Cork Report. The three wines that we tried for the event were a dry Riesling, a Pinot Noir, and a Blue Franc (Lemberger). I thought that all three wines were enjoyable, and I look forward to reviewing them in more detail tomorrow.
Thanks to Shannon for organizing this fun event, and for inspiring me to organize some similar events for Texas wine (details coming soon), and to Adam Satchwell from Shady Lane Cellars for creating some fun wines and taking the time to share them with us.

I have not really stopped thinking about that Blue Franc. I actually liked it a lot the more I think about it. The nose was great. I guess I came into it judging it by being a cab franc and I am not a huge fan but the more I had the more I liked (as usual). That is a bottle I will be picking up shortly.
Yeah, I really liked the nose on that one. I think that was probably the most interesting of the wines that we had. Glad you were able to come over and taste a little Michigan wine with us.
I am so glad you guys had a chance to join us last night, it was great to get some participation in states other than Michigan. By my reckoning we were logging 17 tweets a minute, a virtual tsunami of wine commentary. I appreciate your thoughts on the Blue Franc, it is more often than not a new variety for people and I really think it offers a completely new experience in wine. How often can you say that these days? Thanks again and I look forward to your wine specific commentary tomorrow.

A Tweet & Taste Texas style!
Can we get some Texas vino here in Michigan or will we be shut out?
Glad you had a good time. I really enjoyed the vino with the group in my house last night!
Mike
I’m glad that we were able to as well. I always enjoy trying wine from new regions, and LOVE trying wines that I haven’t had before. You are absolutely right about the Blue Franc. It was a really distinctive wine that was fun to experience.
Mike, we will most definitely have to find a way to get you guys some Texas juice. I’m not sure about the first one that I’m working on, but I’m pretty sure that the second one could get some wine out to Michigan. I’ll keep you posted for sure.
Cheers!
One of these days we might be tasting #ORpinot too. Great job, sorry I missed this one, but I’ll be looking for your complete report!
