The day is rapidly approaching (this Thursday, March 25th) for the #WAMerlot Twitter tasting that my friend Josh Wade from DrinkNectar has put together. People from all over the country will be popping the cork on some Washington Merlot, and then tweeting about the wines that they are drinking.
It's been really exciting to see the level of participation that they have been getting from wineries around the state of Washington. Last count I saw had close to 80 wineries participating in some way in the event. My opinion is that winery participation is key for these types of events. I'll be interested to see how involved the wineries are during the actual event. I would love to see representatives tweeting back and forth with the public, giving information about their wines and answering questions.
I'm really excited to be taking part in this event, and I hope that this event will be a great success for everyone involved. If you have questions about how to participate in the #WAMerlot Twitter event, make sure and check out this page for some great suggestions. Do you already know what you will be drinking for the event?

Ben, you are THE man! I look forward to seeing what you pull the cork on that night! You always have such great taste.
Josh
That is going to be one monster of a tasting. I’m not going to be able to participate, but I’ll definitely be watching the stream for ideas for future WA wine investments.
Josh W. – Unfortunately, my options will be somewhat limited, although I found a decent selection of WA Merlot at one of my local shops. There is one higher priced option that I’m having to fight the urge to spring for. My wife would kill me.
Josh S. – Sorry you won’t be participating, but I know there will be some good options tasted that night. Should get some good notes.
Josh is doing a killer job of getting both wineries and wine lovers on board! So many people are ignoring Washington wines in general and this will shed some light on this country’s second largest wine producing state. Merlot (along with Syrah) could be argued to be the state’s bread and butter. We’ll find out what others think in a couple of nights, I guess!
Hey Jon, thanks for the comment. Agreed, Josh really has been doing a great job. I was just in Walla Walla in October, and absolutely loved the wines that I tasted while I was there. Can’t wait to taste more great Washington wine on Thursday.
I am ready to go! These virtual wine tastings are such a great way to learn about a wine region and to try new things.
Definitely! I’m really excited about #WAMerlot, and I’m also really excited about the #TTMI tasting that is coming up next month.
